Spring and summer trends.

Sally Thorntons Blog May 2026

This month, let’s take a look at what’s going to be fashionable in the jewellery world this spring and summer.

Fashion tends to be cyclical by nature and it seems to follow a roughly 20-year cycle when everything old seems to become new again.   This allows us to celebrate past trends while adding our own contemporary twist.

Jewellery is an easy way to add a touch more personality to an outfit or just give something a refresh.   This season, look out for bold statement making designs using vibrant gemstones and simple sculptural pieces.

Silver is quietly reclaiming the spotlight and is the perfect accessory to add impact to smart casual outfits without looking harsh. Consider softly rounded polished shapes in cuffs, fluid rings and rounded pendants that you instinctively want to touch.

Statement earrings are great addition to add to a summer wedding outfit or to add focus to an occasion look.  Wearing them successfully requires considered styling so for example if you have hair that covers your ears, consider pulling it back so the earrings can be the sole focus.

Fashionable colours this season include juicy greens, bright blues and sorbet shades.  In gemstone terms, think peridot, blue topaz and pink sapphire or citrines. Some designers include faceted stones which enhance their beautiful colours.  I found this pretty peridot drop earring that has just the right amount of swing with the stones sparkling in the light!

A stand out gemstone cocktail ring will totally transform your look and give you that edge.  Look out for chunky rings that feature large coloured gems.  This year’s colours are perfect for jewellery designers who can incorporate the shades of blue topaz and green peridot into their work.

Stacking continues to be fashionable, particularly with layered over necklaces, rings on multiple fingers or a clever mix of fine bracelets.  Often three pieces can give more impact rather than one.

A collection of small pendants on one fine chain still remains popular because they allow people to be creative and express their personality. Small birthstone gems, moons, hearts, flowers along with engraved discs are great additions to add interest.

Lastly, we can’t ignore vintage jewellery especially as Antique cut diamonds, being one of a kind, have long proved to be a hit.  This has been brought right to the foreground, thanks to Taylor Swift’s internet breaking engagement ring with the centre stone a whopping 8ct antique cushion cut diamond.   There is now even more interest in old cut diamonds so if you love vintage jewellery is there now any reason to resist….
