I can remember when I was just a little girl, I would delve into my grandma’s jewellery box trying on her rings on all my fingers! I am pretty sure that I am not alone with this as I think many of us have similar fond memories of a cherished family piece. So, this month I am going to focus on rings.
These continue to be a favourite part of our jewellery collection as they are considered to be the most evocative and hold a multitude of meanings. Whether worn as a sign of love or fashion accessory, rings can make your heart sing!
I thought I would start off with a ‘Moi Et Toi’ ring, meaning ‘you and me’, which is possibly considered the most romantic ring style ever created. It is currently very much in vogue, but its roots are steeped in history and if we look back to the late 18th century Napoleon Bonaparte gave his Josephine a pear-shaped sapphire and diamond Moi et Toi ring.
When browsing through my late grandfather’s historical ring collection, a vintage Moi et Toi caught my eye. This inspired me to design our very own Moi et Toi ring taking the key elements from my grandfather’s using the exact stone and shape combination. I was thrilled with the finished piece as the stones nestle against each other to make it a very pretty ring. I must say that the photographs don’t do it justice. Now the design has been finalised, we can use alternative gemstones and shapes to create for you a very unique ring.
I would also like to tell you about a ring of mine which really tugged at my heart and even made me cry! It is an antique ring dated 1870 that looked a bit sorry for itself with the enamel missing on one side, but I still loved it. I had intended to see if this ring could be repaired, but never got around to it, so it was a lovely surprise when my son Richard had secretly managed to have the beautiful cobalt blue enamel work restored. I guess you could say it was a real repair shop moment and I love it when our talented goldsmiths can achieve the unachievable...
Another great looking ring is a match to an original design which we were asked to make for a client and worked so well we decided to make one more! It is so smart set in platinum with five sparkling emerald cut diamonds.
If you want a head turner, this pre loved diamond ring is quite beautiful. Often, our pre loved rings require some restoration before we sell them and our goldsmith has worked his magic to restore this ring to its former glory. We hope it will give its new owner the same joy as it’s previous.
Finally, I want to focus on one more ring! London designer Luke Stockley made this breath-taking vintage inspired floral ring a few years ago now. I love the intricate detail of his work and so it still remains in my all-time top ten of rings.
